How packages work
A package is a bundle of allowances you sell, or give away, to employers and job seekers: so many companies, so many jobs, so many resumes, gold and featured listings, access to resume search, and so on. Employers buy Employer Packages; job seekers buy Job Seeker Packages. Each package lasts a set number of days from the day it is bought.
You build packages under Components → JS Jobs → Packages. Each purchase is recorded under Payments (Pro), where you also confirm payments that were not confirmed automatically.
Packages are only enforced when you switch them on
Section titled “Packages are only enforced when you switch them on”Out of the box, JS Jobs doesn’t check packages at all. Two settings under Configurations → Package Settings turn the checks on:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Package Required For Employer | No | Yes makes every employer action below depend on a valid employer package. |
| Package Required For Job Seeker | No | Yes does the same for job seekers. |
With a setting at No, that side of the site works without packages: employers can add as many companies and jobs as they like, and gold or featured requests are not limited. Packages can still be bought and shown, but nothing is counted.
What counts as a valid package
Section titled “What counts as a valid package”When a check runs, JS Jobs looks at the user’s purchases and keeps only the ones that are:
- paid: the payment is marked verified, either by the payment gateway or by you on the payment history screen;
- approved: the purchase itself is approved (paid purchases are approved as soon as they are made; free ones depend on the auto approve setting below); and
- not expired: the purchase date plus the package’s Expire In Days is today or later. The days run from the day the package was bought, not from the day the payment was verified.
If the user has never had a package, they are told they have no package. If they had packages but every one has expired, they are told their package has expired. Either way they are asked to buy one. What employers and job seekers see is covered in the guides for employers and job seekers.
How allowances add up
Section titled “How allowances add up”A user can hold several valid packages at once. For each number, JS Jobs adds up the allowance of every valid package. If any one of them has -1, that allowance is unlimited. A 0 means none.
For the Yes/No allowances (resume search, messages, job alerts and so on), one valid package set to Yes is enough.
What each allowance counts
Section titled “What each allowance counts”The counts are not all worked out the same way. Some count only the items made under the user’s current packages; others count everything the user has ever made.
Employers
Section titled “Employers”| Allowance | What is counted against it |
|---|---|
| Companies Allow | Companies the employer added under one of their current packages. |
| Job Allow | Jobs the employer posted under one of their current packages. |
| Folders Allow | Folders the employer made under one of their current packages. |
| Gold Jobs, Featured Jobs | Every job of the employer that is already gold (or featured), whenever it became so. |
| Gold Companies, Featured Companies | Every company of the employer that is already gold (or featured). |
| View Resume In Details | Counted per job: how many of the resumes that applied to that job the employer has opened in full. A resume the employer has already opened stays open to them. |
| Resume Search | Yes/No: whether the employer can use resume search. |
| Resume Save Search | Yes/No: whether the employer can save a resume search. |
| Messages Allow | Yes/No: whether the employer can send messages to job seekers. |
Because companies, jobs and folders are counted per package, a new package gives a fresh allowance once the old one expires. Gold and featured requests count everything the employer has ever made gold or featured, so a new package only helps if its allowance is larger than that total.
When an employer posts a job, the job is linked to one of their current packages that still has jobs left. If that package has Enforce Un-publish Job ticked, the job form shows the fixed duration instead of a stop publishing date, and the job’s stop publishing date is set to its start date plus that duration.
Job seekers
Section titled “Job seekers”| Allowance | What is counted against it |
|---|---|
| Resume Allow | All the job seeker’s resumes. |
| Cover Letter Allow | All the job seeker’s cover letters. |
| Apply for jobs | All the job seeker’s applications, ever. |
| Gold Resume, Featured Resume | Every resume of the job seeker that is already gold (or featured). |
| Job Search | Yes/No: whether the job seeker can use job search. |
| Save Job Search | Yes/No: whether they can save a search. |
| Job Alert Setting | Yes/No: whether they can set up job alerts. |
These count everything the job seeker has, not just what was added under the current package. A job seeker with three resumes and a new package allowing two still can’t add another.
Gold and featured periods
Section titled “Gold and featured periods”When packages are required, a company or resume made gold or featured stays so for the number of days in the package’s Gold Companies Expire In Days, Featured Companies Expire In Days, Gold Resume Expire In Days or Featured Resume Expire In Days. When packages are not required, the periods set under Configurations are used instead (30 days each on a new install).
Free packages
Section titled “Free packages”A package with a price of 0 is a free package. It shows as Free in the package lists. Four more settings under Configurations → Package Settings control free packages:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Assign Package To Employer | none | The package every new employer gets when they take the employer role: on registering, or when a logged-in Joomla user first picks a role. |
| Auto Assign Package To Job Seeker | none | The same for new job seekers. |
| Employer Get Free Package Once, Job Seeker Get Free Package Once | Yes | A user who has ever had a free package can’t get another one, whether they pick it themselves or you assign it. |
| Employer Free Package Auto Approve, Job Seeker Free Package Auto Approve | Yes | A free package taken by the user is approved at once. With No, it waits until you approve it under Payments. |
An auto-assigned package is recorded as paid and approved straight away.
The packages a new install has
Section titled “The packages a new install has”Every install, Free or Pro, starts with one Free Package on each side, published, lasting 365 days:
- Employer: 5 companies, 100 jobs, unlimited resume views, 10 gold and 10 featured jobs, 10 gold and 10 featured companies (30 days each), 10 folders, messages, resume search and saved resume searches, and jobs unpublished 30 days after they start.
- Job seeker: 1 resume, 3 cover letters, unlimited applications, 1 gold and 1 featured resume (30 days each), job search, saved searches and job alerts.
Edit or unpublish them to suit your site.
Free and Pro
Section titled “Free and Pro”The Packages screens and the package checks are in both editions. Taking payment for packages is Pro: the Payments screens, the payment gateways under Payment Methods, and the employer’s and job seeker’s purchase history. So are gold and featured listings, folders, messages and job alerts, so the allowances for them only matter in Pro.
The package forms are described in Employer packages and Job seeker packages; confirming purchases in Payment history.
