Troubleshooting

JS Jobs sends its e-mail through Joomla’s mailer, so Joomla’s mail settings apply.

  • Check System → Global Configuration → Server → Mail: Send Mail must be Yes, and the mailer (PHP Mail, Sendmail or SMTP) must work. Joomla’s Send Test Mail button there is a quick test.
  • JS Jobs sends from the System email address and sends administrator notifications to the Admin email address. Both are set in the setup wizard and under Configurations. The install’s defaults are placeholders; replace them with addresses on your own domain.
  • Which e-mails go out, and to whom, is set under Email Templates → Options.
You see Fix
“User registration is not allowed” on the registration page Set Allow User Registration to Yes under Users → Manage → Options.
“Please install or enable the JS Jobs register plugin” instead of the role Enable JSJobs Register under System → Manage → Plugins. Joomla installs it switched off.
Everyone becomes a job seeker Allow User Register As Employer is No under Configurations.
A user is asked to “Please select your role” They have no JS Jobs role yet, for example because they registered through Joomla’s own form. Choosing a role and clicking Submit fixes it for good.
An employer lands on the Job Seeker Control Panel after logging in In 1.5.3 the JS Jobs Login module does this when there is no other page to return to. Give employers a link to the Employer Control Panel menu item.

See Front-end menus and registration.

  • Waiting for approval. If Company Auto Approve, Job Auto Approve or Resume Auto Approve is No, new items wait in Companies → Approval Queue, Jobs → Approval Queue or Resume → Approval Queue. The dashboard’s Needs Attention cards show how many are waiting.
  • Publishing dates. A job is only listed between its start and stop publishing dates. Posted Jobs on the dashboard shows how many jobs are active today.
  • Applying needs an approved resume. A job seeker whose only resume is waiting sees “Your resume waiting for approval”; with no resume they see “You do not have a resume”.
Message Why
“Company is required for add a job” The employer has no company yet. The message links to the company form.
“You do not have the package” Package Required For Employer is Yes and the employer has no package.
“Your current package is expired” Their package’s days have run out.
“job limit exceeds” They have used all the jobs their packages allow.

Each package message links to the packages page. To stop asking for packages, set Package Required For Employer to No. To give every new employer a package, use Auto Assign Package To Employer. Job seekers get the same kind of messages, such as “Your job apply limit is exceeded”, when Package Required For Job Seeker is Yes.

Upload limits are set under Configurations and Configurations → Job Seeker:

Setting Default
Document File Extensions (resume files) txt, doc, docx, Pdf, opt, rtf
Image File Extensions (logos and photos) gif, jpg, jpeg, png
Company Logo Maximum Size 900 KB
File Maximum Size (each resume file) 900 KB
Number of Files For Resume 5
Resume Photo Size Allowed 900 KB

The extensions must be separated by commas. PHP’s own upload limits (upload_max_filesize and post_max_size) also apply; if they are smaller, they win. Uploads are stored in the Data Directory (jsjobsdata in your site’s root by default), which the web server must be able to write to.

Job alert e-mails are sent when a special address on your site is opened, so something has to open it regularly. Configurations → Cron Job shows the address and ready-made commands for Webcrown.org, Wget, Curl, a Php Script and the Website address itself. Set up one of them in your hosting control panel or with a cron service; the screen recommends running it once a day. The address contains a key, so copy it exactly from that screen.

  • “This feature is not available.” on the website, or Pro screens sending you back to the dashboard, means the site isn’t activated for its domain. The administrator shows a notice with an Activate or Reactivate now link. See Your licence.
  • “Cannot update from here yet” on JS Jobs Update lists what the server is missing: the PHP cURL or OpenSSL extension, or write access to the component folders or Joomla’s tmp folder.
  • Updater errors are also saved to Admin → System Log.
