Updating
Pro is updated from inside the component, not from Joomla’s own update screen. The same JS Jobs Update screen that turned Free into Pro installs each new Pro version.
Knowing an update is out
Section titled “Knowing an update is out”Once a key has been saved, the dashboard checks with the licence server at most once a day. When a newer version is available to you, a notice at the top of the dashboard says “JS Jobs 1.x.x is available.” with “Click to review and update.” Clicking it opens JS Jobs Update.
Updating
Section titled “Updating”-
Go to Components → JS Jobs → Admin → JS Jobs Update.
The key you used before shows as Saved key, with all but its last four characters hidden. You don’t need to type it again. Use a different key opens the box for another one.
-
Click Check for Updates.
- If there is a newer version, Update available shows it with its change list, and the License panel fills in.
- If not, you see “You are running the latest version.” and the version number.
-
Click Update Now and confirm “All existing files will be overwritten. Continue?”. Keep the page open until the log ends with “JS Jobs updated to” and the new version.
What an update changes
Section titled “What an update changes”Files. The package is downloaded and checked against its SHA-256 checksum, and so is each part inside it. The component’s administrator and site folders are replaced with the new version’s files; anything else in those two folders is deleted. The modules and plugins are installed again over the ones you have.
Database. The update runs the database changes of every version between the one you have and the new one, in order. Your data stays. A change the database already has (a table, column or index that exists) is skipped rather than treated as an error, so an update that stopped half way can be run again. The version number under Version at the top right of the dashboard moves to the new one, and so does the version Joomla shows under System → Manage → Extensions.
If something fails, the log shows the error and it is saved to Admin → System Log. Fix the cause and run the update again.
Repairing the current version
Section titled “Repairing the current version”When you are already on the latest version, the screen offers Repair: “Already on the latest version? You can re-download and re-apply it.” Click Reinstall This Version to download the same version again and put its files and extensions back. It also runs that version’s database changes again. “Your data and settings are not touched.” Use it when files were damaged, an update stopped part-way, or support asks you to.
Don’t install the Free package over Pro
Section titled “Don’t install the Free package over Pro”Joomla’s own update feed for JS Jobs announces the Free package. The Pro update switches that feed off on a Pro site. If you upload the Free package under System → Install → Extensions anyway, Joomla stops with “This site runs JS Jobs Pro. This is the free package, and installing it would replace the Pro files, so nothing was changed.” Nothing on the site changes.
When your subscription ends
Section titled “When your subscription ends”Pro keeps working when your subscription ends. Your site stays activated and every Pro feature stays on. Only new versions stop:
- In the 30 days before the end date, the dashboard shows “Your JS Jobs update subscription expires in N days.” (or “expires today”), with the date to renew by.
- After it ends, when a newer version comes out, the dashboard shows “Your JS Jobs update subscription expired on” and the date, followed by “JS Jobs Pro keeps working, but version N and future releases need an active subscription. Renew to get updates and support.”
- When a newer version exists, Check for Updates shows “Your JS Jobs Pro licence has expired. Renew it on joomsky.com to get the new version.” with a Renew link, and offers no Update Now.
Update access until in the License panel shows the end date and the days left, or “expired”.
