Introduction

JS Jobs is a job board component for Joomla (com_jsjobs). Employers post jobs on your website, job seekers post resumes and apply, and you run the whole board from Joomla’s administrator. These docs describe JS Jobs Pro 1.5.3 on Joomla 6. Where something is only in Pro, the page says so; see Free and Pro for the full list.

The administrator

Works in Joomla’s administrator under Components → JS Jobs. Approves companies, jobs and resumes, sets up packages, categories and the other lists, edits e-mail templates and changes the settings under Configurations. See The dashboard.

Employers

Registered users with the employer role. On your website they add companies, post jobs, search resumes and look at the people who applied. Their home page is the Employer Control Panel.

Job seekers

Registered users with the job seeker role. They create resumes, search jobs and apply. Their home page is the Job Seeker Control Panel.

Visitors

People who are not logged in. They can browse and search jobs, companies and categories. Whether they can post a job, apply or search resumes is up to your settings.

Every registered user has one JS Jobs role: employer or job seeker. The role is chosen at registration, or the first time a logged-in user without a role opens a JS Jobs page. See Front-end menus and registration.

Term What it is
Company An employer’s business profile: name, logo, category, location and contact details. An employer needs a company before posting a job.
Job A vacancy posted by an employer for one of their companies. It has a category, job type, location, salary range and a publishing period.
Resume A job seeker’s profile: personal details, addresses, education, employers, skills, references and languages, and optional files.
Application A job seeker applying to a job with one of their resumes and, optionally, a cover letter. The employer sees it under the job’s applications.
Category The field of work a job, company or resume belongs to, with sub-categories. The install fills in a full list.
Department An optional part of a company that a job can belong to.
Package A bundle an employer or job seeker gets (free or paid) that sets how many companies, jobs, resumes, applications and so on they may have, and for how many days. Packages only limit people when the settings say a package is required.
Gold and featured Promoted jobs, companies and resumes, shown with a badge and in their own lists and modules (Pro).
Approval Companies, jobs and resumes can go live at once or wait in an Approval Queue for the administrator.

The Glossary explains more terms.

  1. You install the component and run the setup wizard.
  2. You add menu items so employers and job seekers can reach their pages. The wizard can create the two control panel items for you.
  3. An employer registers, adds a company and posts a job. A job seeker registers, adds a resume and applies. The employer then reviews the application. Your first job walks through this on the demo site.

The screenshots come from a demo site called “Acme Careers”. Its employers are Olivia Grant (Northwind Labs) and Marcus Reed (Bluepeak Retail), and its job seekers are Maria Lopez, David Chen, Priya Shah and Tom Becker. The install’s city list covers Pakistan only, so the demo’s locations are Pakistani cities.
