Glossary
Alt text: A short text that says what an image shows, in the image’s alt attribute. Screen readers read it out, and it shows when the image can’t load. In Joomla’s article editor it is the Image Description (Alt Text) field.
API key: A secret code from an AI provider that lets your site use its AI, billed to your account. You add it in Options.
Decorative image: An image that adds nothing to the content, such as a pattern or a divider. It gets an empty alt text (alt=""), so screen readers skip it. In Joomla’s editor, No Description is ticked.
EN 301 549: The European standard for accessible ICT. For websites it refers to WCAG 2.1 level AA.
European Accessibility Act (EAA): An EU law that, since June 2025, requires many businesses to make their websites and online services accessible.
Fix Queue: The screen that lists every open problem, where you ask for suggestions and accept fixes.
Licence key: The key you get when you buy Pro. It gives you updates and support; Pro works without it.
Live site, staging copy: The live site is the one your visitors use. A staging copy is a copy of it for testing changes. A Pro licence counts them separately.
Sa11y: The accessibility checker that comes with Joomla 5.4 and 6. The Pages screen uses it to check each page as visitors see it.
Scan: A check of your content for accessibility problems. It changes nothing.
Score: The share of checked articles, modules, menu items and categories with no open problem, out of 100.
Screen reader: Software that reads a page aloud, used by people who are blind or have low vision. It relies on alt text, link text, headings and labels.
Spend cap: The most the AI suggestions may cost in a month, set in Options.
Suggestion: A fix proposed by the AI, or worked out by rule. It waits in the Fix Queue until a person accepts or rejects it.
WCAG: The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the international standard for accessible web content. Each guideline has numbered success criteria, such as 1.1.1 Non-text Content. See What it checks.
