Getting an API key

An API key lets your site ask the AI provider for suggestions, billed to your account with that provider. You need one key, from the provider you choose. The providers change their screens from time to time, so the names below may differ a little.

  1. Sign in or create an account at platform.claude.com.

  2. Add a payment method or buy credits under Billing. A few dollars last a long time.

  3. Open API keys (platform.claude.com/settings/keys) and create a key. Name it after your site.

  4. Copy the key, which starts with sk-ant-. It is shown only once.

  1. Sign in with a Google account at Google AI Studio.

  2. Create an API key, in a new or an existing Google Cloud project.

  3. Set up billing for the project if Google asks for it. Without billing, the free tier’s limits and terms apply.

  4. Copy the key.

  1. Sign in or create an account at platform.openai.com.

  2. Add a payment method or credits under Billing.

  3. Open API keys (platform.openai.com/api-keys) and create a new secret key. Name it after your site.

  4. Copy the key, which starts with sk-. It is shown only once.

  1. Go to Components → JS Accessibility Fixer and press Options.

  2. On the AI tab, choose the AI provider the key is from.

  3. Paste the key into API key, and press Save & Close.

  4. Test it: in the Fix Queue, tick one image and press Suggest Fixes.

The key is stored in your site’s database with the component’s settings, like other Joomla extension settings. It is sent only to the provider you chose, and only when a suggestion is asked for.

Besides the spend cap in JS Accessibility Fixer, each provider lets you set a monthly budget or usage limit in its billing settings. Setting both is a good idea.

The Fix Queue shows the provider’s message, for example that the key is not valid or the account has no credit. Check that you chose the right provider for the key, and that billing is set up. See Troubleshooting.
